#SEO: What Should We Be Doing? #SocialCafe 3.24
- How much do you know (or want to know) about Google penalties?
Some of us have enough experience that we are there to help others. But, I would say (probably based on my Masters in Psychology) that calmness is your friend. Just like last week, don’t let the fear get to you. Breathe, breathe deeply, calm yourself, and then calmly seek out the answer to whatever question it is that you have at that moment. There are indeed answers to be had.
A1 It’s part of what I do.. knowing it, not getting them :) #SocialCafe #TBW— Deborah (@socialwebcafe) June 11, 2014 | A1: getting a penalty from google can be frightening,& confusing, I feel that sometimes u r not sure what u did incorrect... #SocialCafe— Marisa (@MoppetMissy) June 11, 2014 |
- How important is it to you, personally, or in your business, to address a penalty (vs just letting it go)?
As an example, yes, there was a penalty, but I practiced the calmness and the penalty (which was an understandable one) was removed in less than 24 hours. See, I know you all can handle this. And, we are there for you!
A2 I received an outgoing penalty (from guest blogs) and got on it right away. Removed in less than 24 #SocialCafe #TBW— Deborah (@socialwebcafe) June 11, 2014 | A2. In the blogging industry penalties can reduce traffic and revenue. It's important to address issues and bounce back #SocialCafe #TBW— The Blog Workshop :) (@TheBlogWorkshop) June 11, 2014 |
- Where would you go to for help if you were to encounter a #SEO-related penalty?
Like Da Vinci says, Google Webmaster Tools is a great place to start! Be informed!
A3. First step is check your Google Webmaster tools to see what penalties you may have #SocialCafe #TBW— The Blog Workshop :) (@TheBlogWorkshop) June 11, 2014 | A3 I would use what I have learned, but also open to learning more. #SocialCafe #TBW— Deborah (@socialwebcafe) June 11, 2014 |
- What questions do you have, related to Google penalties?
Marisa - the first thing that I would do is examine the question I am asking. In other words, is this really a case of Google “refusing” to remove the penalty or is it a case of our misunderstanding of what is required of us? Having working at IMN and working with clients who have received penalties (like I said, it is what I do), I have found that it is pretty much almost-always a case of not following the instructions rather than a case of a Google “refusal.” The only reason I say “almost-always” is because I don’t like to ever say “always” (for anything).
As in life, if we approach things with the idea that someone else is doing something wrong and doing it “to us” we may miss the opportunities that we have to be able to solve the issue. Remember the “solved in 24 hrs” (above scenario)? That was only able to be accomplished because I asked what it was that I was supposed to do rather than assuming that Google was being nasty to me (which they were not). Make sense?
A4 Here to answer ;) #SocialCafe #TBW— Deborah (@socialwebcafe) June 11, 2014 | A4: What does one do if they keep trying to get penalty removed, but Goggle keeps refusing to remove it? #SocialCafe #tbw— Marisa (@MoppetMissy) June 11, 2014 |
