Q1 Do you or anyone you know of allergies or special diet needs?
Q1 Yes one of my friend can't have gluten
My 2 nephews have a life-threatening PA. I helped the oldest during his 1st & thankfully only reaction.
anyone make treats with sun butter? i made "buckeyes" with it. yum
Q1. I have a few allergies and so do some of my family members
Those are cute! Sure better than the ordinary ones. I think that is really good for kids, to make it bling.
I love sun butter, but I've never tried to make buckeyes with it. Do you just do a straight substitution?
So you had the inspiration for PeanutFreeZone. Is that what started it for you? Glad they are ok!
lots! it seems so common nowadays
sun butter is great! i also use TJ's brand cashew or macadamia butters as I (Meredith) am ok with tree nuts.
Ooh, sun butter... sounds interesting.
yes - just replace the pb. yum
A1 I know of people who have allergies to milk and it is tricky to prepare meals.
It seems like allergies weren't talked about as much. I'm glad that we have so many creative ways to enjoy food now
yes, that's why we started it (my sis is a graphic designer and started making the items to increase safety)
totally agree - we're so creative today. when i was a kid things were so limited! i am grateful...
Thanks for the tip! I'm going to try it soon :)
Love the AllerblingTM wristband. Great idea!
Me too! Some things are still difficult though - especially eating out
We love SunButter too! be sure to check out our pinterest, we have recipes w/ sun butter
always always always communicate with servers, chefs, managers. my mom did and i bet you all do too! we can never be TOO safe!

RT : Come chat with us about allergies and how to have a Peanut Free Holiday!
RT : I have an 8 month old granddaughter and wonder how peanut butter could cause a reaction.
"No sugar" meant, literally "no sugar." Grape KoolAid tastes better with sweetener of some kind ;)
Q1 I still have some allergies, but not as bad as when I was a kid. There was a laundry list of things I couldn't eat...
Q1 ... and sugar was one of them. Can you imagine being a kid at a party and not being able to eat ! :o(
Q2 What resources do you use to accommodate dietary needs? Where do you shop?
I had a case where I insisted "no alcohol" and the establishment gave me alcohol anyway. Supposed classy place..
Q2 I eat more organic food
You must be much happier now, with a shorter laundry list of things you can't eat ;)
RT : Q1 & sugar was one of them. Can you imagine being a kid at a party and not being able to eat ! :o(
i have gotten to the point i feed my kids b4 we go somewhere. its just not worth the risk. better safe than sorry
No one knows why children are getting these allergies so much now, but the good news is awareness is increasing
My deal these days is gluten free.. I can say it, and they will still add the croutons or put bread on my plate.
Does that help you feel healthier, overall? I've been thinking of doing that..
A2 Grocery store, but need to knowledgeable of what works and what is dangerous to that person.

Q2 I like specialty cookbooks that provide recipes without common allergens
I wonder if it is just that they don't "get it." Seems like people understand "sugar free" but not gluten or milk
That would have been hard as a kid jordanteater, I just recently had to give up sugar and it was hard as an adult.
RT : i have gotten to th point i feed my kids b4 we go somewhere. its just not worth th risk. better safe thn sorry
Yes def I feel better I don't know if it really works but I don't want bad prods in my body !!
Stay tuned for topic announcement about another holiday gift idea next week…
Much happier, now everything in moderation and I'm fine. Others have it much worse.
A lot of people don't realize what gluten is, a part of wheat, which is a common ingredient.
It makes me sad to hear about children that can participate in "parties" with food because of something that's not their fault

Q1 my wife is very anemic so she has to eat alot of dark green veggies
People are getting much more savvy about allergies, and more recently gluten. I've seen much more available in stores, etc.
I've heard that eating too much spinach can have adverse effects on one's iron levels.
Spinach? Really? Wow - you'd have to limit the Popeye cartoons, as well :)
Very true. It helps when kids can connect with other kids with the same allergies, or even other allergies.
Someone can check me if I got that wrong about spinach..!
i deleted b/c it may have read a insensitive - glad you got my point. i was lonely as a peanut-allergic as a kid!
Me too..! I appreciate the benefits of more organic! RT : Q2 I eat more organic food
RT : Q1 I still have some allergies, but not as bad as when I was a kid. A laundry list of things I couldnt eat...
Yes, It's great to find some type of support group for parents/playgroup for kids. Faan, nonutsmoms, can help find groups
I hear ya! My son had a girlfriend allergic to milk and dairy and I tried to be sensitive to her needs in prep.
Q3 Any special recipes that you use? Please share links!
Are these web sites? Sounds great! I especially like how they came up with nonutsmoms :)
Q2 I generally try 2 find whole foods, or things w/ less additives. , & r some faves.
I ws th mom searching which foods were th true culprits of th stomach ache back in those days.. A real sleuth job!
RT : Q2 I try 2 find whole foods, or things w/ less additives , & r favs
I feel so much better since avoiding packaged/processed foods and shopping more at whole foods

If you had to asses budget, is it like a 25% increase in cost? Of course, no price tag on good health!
I really should work harder at cleaning up my eating habits. I'm sure I'd feel much better as everyone says...
Oops.. "assess," not what I typed in that last tweet!
Did my entry work? Having some tech problems..!
once you buy the basics, it's really not too bad. Plus you feel fuller longer!
it's hard, I have a hard time giving up the coffee. maybe someday....

RT : its hard, I have a hard time giving up the coffee. maybe someday....
Q4 Aside from obvious signs like tummy trouble and allergy testing at the docs, r there any other ways 2 spot allergies in kids.
One life threatening allergy is 1 thing, but if a bazillion mild 2 mod, it's still cumulative in terms of symptoms
Good question, symptoms can show up as rash, trouble breathing, fatigue. Challenge testing can be helpful.
FAAN has good info on the symptoms of allergies. Minor reactions can be rashes, itchy throat, etc

A lot of people feel better eliminating gluten, even if tests do not show a full blown celiac condition.

Thank you for joining us for this week's Twitter Chat.
It just seems like eliminating a litany of mild allergens is just too daunting of a task.
